“ (A)n attribute that is defined by society as an intellectual disability can have beautiful spiritual ramifications that put to shame those who may be more intellectually capable.” -Stephanie O. Hubach, Same Lake, Different Boat
At ACA, we realize that living in a fallen world means that many, many children suffer from cognitive impairment and learning disabilities. We embrace these children as valuable and as possessing infinite worth in the eyes of God and our Christian community. We also acknowledge that children with disabilities often bring to our lives and learning environments surprising graces and should be viewed as important assets to our community.
Abington Christian Academy is committed to developing resources to serve children who struggle with learning differences. We cooperate with the Northeast Educational Intermediate Unit (NEIU) to evaluate and provide support services for speech, reading, and mathematics. This support takes the form of pull-out instruction once per week.
We also welcome the presence of Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) workers in our classrooms and work with local school districts to adapt the requirements of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) in our classrooms as our resources allow.
Because we are committed to providing the most appropriate education for each child, in some cases, we may determine that we regrettably do not have the resources to meet the academic needs of a particular child.
If your student requires special services, please call the academy office at 570.586.5270.
